To the Honourable President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled:
The petition of the undersigned recognizes that marriage is a bedrock institution of Australian society.
Marriage is defined in the Marriage Act 1961 as "the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life."
It provides the best, most secure environment for raising and nurturing society's next generation.
Redefining marriage would redefine family. By definition, same-sex parenting means removing a child from either their mum or dad.
Redefining marriage is a divisive issue. There will always be millions of Australians who for religious and cultural reasons will not accept a redefinition of marriage.
Your petitioners ask that the Senate preserve marriage as the union of a man and a woman, voluntarily entered into for life.
